L’envers is an innovative visual arts project that offers a unique opportunity for students of all ages at the Maison des Adultes de Charlesbourg – from young adults to seniors – to explore their creativity and discover the underbelly of the art world. Designed to enrich both academic and personal journeys, the program emphasizes self-expression, curiosity and the development of essential skills.

In a context where the visual arts are often absent from traditional educational paths, L’envers acts as a bridge to fill this void. Participants will have the chance to visit the studios of four Quebec City artists, where they will discover the creative sites, work processes and inspirations behind their work.

These visits will be complemented by eight in-class creative sessions. Each artist will propose a unique project, carried out in two consecutive workshops, enabling participants to explore a variety of techniques and take ownership of inspiring artistic approaches.

The project will culminate in a public exhibition and festive vernissage, organized in the form of a 5 à 7, during the week of May 5, 2025. This event will enable participants to share the fruits of their labor with friends, family and the public, offering a moment of collective celebration and enhancing self-esteem through the spotlight on their creations.

The artists

Visual artist Andrée-Anne Laberge devotes her research to miniature sculptures, installations and encaustic works. She leads numerous workshops across the province.

Her research focuses on the link she establishes between natural disasters that affect inhabited areas and private disasters, experienced within the home, which in turn becomes a disaster zone.

Antoine Larocque is a visual artist who works with paint, video, writing, images and found objects. He favors simple, everyday means. He describes his approach as “trash-ethnography”, observing institutions and mores with an eye that is both satirical and poetic. His work combines seemingly incompatible elements to reveal their cultural significance. He blends historical and folkloric references with contemporary, familiar and even vulgar elements. His work has been shown locally and internationally in a variety of contexts, including galleries, artist-run centers, Facebook Marketplace and experimental filmfestivals .

A multidisciplinary artist born in Toronto, Noelle Wharton-Ayer has lived and worked in Quebec City since 2011. Her practice considers the ways in which the image of the botanical can challenge us to introspection and act as an entry point into the construction of personal and familial narratives. She is interested in the collage process as a methodology that engages both real and imagined spaces, the mundane and the spectacular. The artist holds a BFA from York University and an MFA from Université Laval. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Canada and Europe. Since 2019 she has been working as a freelance artist-mediator for cultural mediation projects in Quebec City. In winter 2024 the artist was awarded a CALQ creation grant for her Bedfellowsproject , which was presented in an exhibition at the VU Photo artist center in May 2024.

Patrick Forchild ‘s artistic approach revolves around painting, graffiti and photography. The artist-traveler is also an accomplished entrepreneur: the AVIVEclothing company , which he directs and for which he signs most of the visual design, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024. His creations are populated by recurring characters and motifs that evolve with his travels and encounters. Indeed, the exhibitions he takes part in, his passion for graffiti, the murals he creates and the many collaborative projects in which he participates lead him to wander, from one medium to another, between urban and rural settings. Active in the Quebec City art community, Patrick Forchild is also a founding member of Galerie Morgan Bridge.
