A Folie/Culture performance by The Normals
At Darling Foundry’s Place Publique
745 Rue Ottawa, Montreal
On Thursday, June 18, 2015, a Folie/Culture team was on hand to kick off the summer season of Darling Foundry’s Place Publique with a series of short presentations on the theme Ostentatious Normality.
Ostentatious Normality
Normality is a nightmare: an oppressive force that makes us all ostensibly the same. Successful normality goes even further, rendering us indistinguishable. Many of the sheep in this flock, however, want to escape from this restrictive model and head for the outskirts, venture into the heart of the unknown, risk standing out. We must escape uniformity. Not only artists but others as well⎯crazy people, the young and rebellious, LGBTQA+, the joyfully tattooed and pierced, and many more⎯all march to the beat of a different drummer and come together in rapturous, often beautiful subcultures.
Guests were also invited to the opening of two exhibitions, Let Us Be Us, by Lieven De Boeck, and Asylum in the Sea, by Hajra Waheed, presented inside the centre.
