Le cabinet des censuré.e.s

September 19 to 29, 2019

As part of our current theme Walk on Eggshells!, Folie/Culture invites you to the collective exhibition Le cabinet des censuré.e.s, which will be held from September 19 to 29 at L’aise, 340, Saint-Roch Street, suite 201 in Québec. The vernissage, the launch of esse issue 97 | Appropriation and performances will take place on September 19 at 5 p.m.

This exhibition, which is curated by Julia Roberge Van Der Donckt (Montréal), proposes to consider how censorship affects artists. Le cabinet des censuré.e.s is an opportunity to explore the psychological dimension of such a situation through testimonies, artworks and performances. Projects falling through due to lack of support from disseminators, works withdrawn without notice, in situ interventions deemed inappropriate… these are all manifestations of a phenomenon that often operates in an insidious way. In any case, the objective remains the same: to recontextualize censored works and unleash their destabilizing potential once again.

Artists:
John Boyle-Singfield (Montréal/Tiohtiá: ke)
Martin Bureau (Québec)
Steve Giasson (Montréal)
Isabelle Hayeur (Rawdon)
Helena Martin Franco (Montréal)
Christian Messier (Montréal)

A round tableon censorship, moderated by the guest curator, will bring together the artists taking part in the exhibition and various guests on September 29 at 1 p.m.
