L’impression des regards – Les Sœurs Couture

Goût profond d’égout

Given the success of Manhole Madness, Folie/Culture invited the artists to develop their projects by making a pictorial conception for use in the production of a print from the matrices of the original plate.

Les Sœurs Couture’s Manhole Cover

With Goût profond d’égout, relationships are created through  roots withered by winter, an abandoned, disincarnated body, a ripped garbage bag, at the end of  the meanderings of  what is left of the still life that each of us carries deep within ourselves,  a loud echo of the sirens’ song. Here the manhole becomes a necessary passage, a tunnel into which we must dive, and which brings the whore, the bum, or our inner madman to the other side of what we thought possible, beyond our personal limits.

Les Sœurs Couture obtained their Bachelor’s degree in visual arts at Université Laval. Together as a team since 1998, their artistic journey and approach as well as their discourse are wonderfully complementary. The family dynamic contributes to an associative art through which they explore the idea of bringing opposites together. Over the last ten years, they have been invited to work in residencies on both sides of the Atlantic. They have to their credit several exhibitions and have participated in collectives at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, in galleries, and elsewhere.
