Les Imperméables Workshop

Place: Maison des métiers d’art de Québec
Québec

Participant(s): Giorgia Volpe

During winter 2008, Folie/Culture offered a new creation workshop reserved for people who have or have had mental health problems. In conjunction with La Maison des métiers d’art de Québec, the Les Imperméables workshop was given by the artist, Giorgia Volpe.

The Les Imperméables Workshop

Participants created a transparent vinyl raincoat, a personal work, a manifestation of self as a means of personal expression. Inspired from everyday objects, the raincoats are used as a cover or protection for the body during bad weather, but also in other contexts. Starting from the principles of collage and assemblage, the raincoats were transformed little by little into a kind of skin covered with unexpected contents that can be read, and seen while being used for protection.

Born in Sao Paulo, Giorgia Volpe has lived and worked in Québec since 1998. Brazilian multidisciplinary artist, she holds a baccalaureate from Sao Paulo University. Her practice has brought her to explore the diverse realities of the body, to the contours and boundaries of this complex structure both outside and in.
