As usual, Folie/Culture offered an out-of-the-ordinary meeting to launch the 10th edition of the Cahier Folie/Culture. On this occasion, a puzzle competition was organized and the Minute videos from 2008 and 2009 were projected. This evening was hosted by Michel Marcoux accompanied by musician Frédéric Desroches.
To mark the occasion, Folie/Culture organized a puzzle contest under the honorary presidency of the artist Jean-Marc Mathieu-Lajoie who uses the multiple possibilities of the puzzle in his visual productions. The contest was open to five teams of three people.
CAHIER FOLIE/CULTURE No. 10
Cahiers Folie/Culture are out of the ordinary objects. Some of the previous releases have marked the imagination through their formal originality: printing on a hospital gown (Cahier # 8), paper handkerchiefs (Cahier # 7) or on paper sandwiched between slices of bread (Cahier # 6). Folie/Culture racked its brains to come up with an equally bold proposal.
The invited author was Marie-Sissi Labrèche. Texts by Anick Arsenault, Mireille Bourque, Pascal Brateau, Annie Brunette, Noémie Charles, André Marceau, Kiko Ta-Min and Paolo Universo were also selected following a call for proposals. The visual portion of the publication was provided by Fanny Baxter, Pascal Brateau, Caroline Gagné, Nadège Grebmeier Forget, Mathieu Lacroix, Christelle Mas, Catherine Plaisance, Jérémi Savoie, and Katja Vartiainen. These artists of the pen or the image had the challenge of commenting on the theme of side effects in Les effets secondaires de … This theme addressed the problem of some dependencies and the resulting effects.
MINUTE VIDEO 2008 AND 2009
The projection included the 2008 version which explored the side effects of urban society … while the 2009 edition was based around letting go and having fun in Les thèmes m’assomment, éclatez-vous la tête! These micro video works followed a call for proposals.
