Folie/Culture at the Salon Nouveau Genre

December 5, 2015

On Saturday, December 5 2015, Folie/Culture tabled at the 13th annual Salon Nouveau Genre at Saint-Fidèle church, 1280 4e Avenue, in Quebec City, presenting work from the brand-new fall 2015 Fanzine Creation Workshop. From 10 am to 6 pm, Salon visitors enjoyed the fanzines—often simply called “zines”– made by the workshop participants, some of whom were on hand to talk about their experience. The Salon was also the perfect opportunity to purchase Folie/Culture publications, including the famous Cahiers Folie/Culture, a bold, formally original series of publications in the tradition of the artist’s book.

Again this year, the Salon Nouveau Genre was a must-attend event for everyone interested in independent artistic creation!

The Fanzine Creation Workshop

In collaboration with Maison des métiers d’art de Québec, and led by artists Olivier Bhérer-Vidal and Marie Gilbert, the Fanzine Creation Workshop introduced participants to the process of making their own zine and provided them the opportunity to freely express themselves on various themes. With no restrictions, participants produced short publications through exploration and experimentation with techniques such as drawing, writing, collage and binding.
